Local Authority
Oldham Council
Plot Type
Town centre commercial unit
Project Type
Retail to takeaway with dining area and shopfront redesign
Our Role
Architectural design and planning consultant for change of use, internal layout design, and shopfront upgrade. We supported the client from concept through to planning approval and layout coordination.
Challenge
Transforming a former clothing shop on King Street, Oldham into a modern takeaway with indoor dining, in a prominent location near Oldham Sixth Form College and the town centre tram stop. The project required a full change of use, internal reconfiguration, and a new commercial shopfront design to suit the food use.
Approach
We led the change of use process and designed a practical internal layout that balanced customer seating with back-of-house kitchen space and service counters. The new shopfront was developed to create a bold, visible identity that would stand out to students, passers-by, and commuters.
Solution
The result is a clean, functional, and customer-friendly takeaway with a strong high-street presence. The internal layout supports smooth service and seating flow, while the refreshed shopfront enhances brand visibility in this high-footfall part of Oldham. This project demonstrates our ability to convert commercial retail units into vibrant, compliant food outlets that meet both operational and planning requirements.
