Plot Type

Historic industrial building

Project Type

Commercial reuse / industrial refurbishment

Our Role

Lead architect for reuse strategy, layout optimisation, and compliance upgrade design. We supported the project from site assessment through to technical detailing for commercial fit-out and regulatory approval.

Challenge

Transforming a historic mill in Oldham into flexible commercial premises while preserving its industrial character and addressing structural, spatial, and regulatory constraints common in heritage reuse projects.

Approach

We undertook a sensitive refurbishment strategy that respected the building’s original fabric while introducing the necessary upgrades for modern commercial use. Internal spaces were reconfigured to support multi-tenant occupancy, with updated access routes, services, and compliance measures. Our design preserved key architectural features while improving functionality and compliance.

Solution

The result is a revitalised industrial site ready for commercial reuse — maintaining the mill’s identity while adapting it for contemporary needs. The project reflects our ability to deliver characterful, cost-effective commercial spaces by reimagining Oldham’s industrial heritage through smart, sustainable design.
